Business Our Manifesto Environment Safety 5 After an exceptional year dealing with the Covid-19 pandemic, we are building towards a ‘new normal’ and what that means for us all. Safety is a constant focus SAFETY WE CARE ABOUT OUR COMMUNITY AND ENVIRONMENT Mark Neate As we evolve into our new agile working environment, safety and security must continue to be at the forefront of everything that we do. Recently we have had a number of events that have injured colleagues. Please take this as a reminder of the need for a constant focus on safety; that we consider conventional safety risks as well as potential nuclear and environmental hazards, along with being Covid-secure. We value each other, and we want everyone to be safe at work and to go home safely at the end of their working day/shift. Please take time to re-familiarise yourselves with your working environment, the risks involved with the work that we do and what we need to do to prepare for and mitigate these. Take the time before you start a job to check that you’re okay; have a conversation with your colleagues and line manager before you start work and maintain your environmental ‘situational awareness’ at all times. Using handrails can prevent slips, trips or falls. Some of us may shy away from touching handrails for fear of contracting Covid-19, but if we’re all sanitising our hands, then the risk isn’t any greater than other forms of social engagement. And keep a questioning attitude – if you’re unsure or have any concerns, ask for help. Look after yourselves and each other – your physical and mental health and wellbeing.
